dappOS AMA Recap
dappOS is an operating protocol that manages crypto infrastructures for users.
On Wednesday 30th of November, Darren Mayberry, Ecosystem Lead at dappOS, joined us to answer CryptoRank’s AMA questions.
Darren Mayberry is the Head of Ecosystem at dappOS. Darren met the founders of dappOS a few years ago and joined the project earlier this year to contribute with his knowledge, network and creativity. He is excited about how Web3 can change our lives for the better and has a strong legal background.
Questions from the CryptoRank Team
Q1: Could you please describe the general idea behind the dappOS project and the philosophy behind it?
Darren: The short answer: dappOS is an operating protocol that manages crypto infrastructure for users.
We are building a cushion between the end users and the crypto infrastructures and by doing so, we intend to smooth the convoluted workflow and to replace it with a single-click solution.
dappOS is now fully enabled with Perpetual Protocol on Ethereum Layer 2 Optimism, a roll-up scaling solution. The integration allows users from other chains to jumpstart trading on Perpetual without complicated workflow. We want to safeguard a simplified experience without compromising security.
dappOS aims to build a more inclusive blockchain ecosystem and provide a safe, secure and frictionless experience for Web3 projects and their C-end users. We are trying to make utility more accessible, both for dApp builders and for those trying to use dApps.
Q2: Please can you let us know about the future development roadmap of dappOS?
Darren: Binance Labs’s Incubation Program awarded dappOS an 8-week curriculum that is tailored to our project’s requirements. In addition to a variety of exclusive ecosystem resources, Binance Labs will help us with access to blockchain market leaders, investment-focused Demo Day, and post-incubation continuous support.
Moving forward, our short-term plan, or Phase I focus, is to bring the solution to existing dApps. dappOS provides a chain-agnostic, workflow-simplified solution for them without the need to redeploy current contracts. With this integration, the workflow on dApps can be significantly simplified. Also, the same seamless experience can be provided to users from different chains.
As our solution continues to evolve, our long-term ambition, or Phase II strategy, is to establish a mini-program gateway to Web3, where countless user-friendly dApps can be accessed, all in one place, enabling Web3 accounts the ease of the Web2 user experience.
Questions from Twitter
Q1: Revenue is a key factor for all projects to survive and keep the projects running. What is @Dappos_com way of generating profit and revenue?
Darren: See that’s a question that aims for the long term, we in Web3 do not want to lead with growth and then just cave to advertising revenue in the future, right? That’s the Web2 model.
Integration of our solution will be free, we will collect fees from each transaction. In most cases, users are supposed to pay the fee, but ultimately dApps will be able to pay fees on behalf of their users should they choose to become a special node in our network.
Q2: DappOS has a hosted Network making all services decentralized. However, With low levels of user trust, the relevance of non-custodial storage solutions & transition to fully decentralized platforms increases.
What actions are you taking to fully decentralize?
Darren: It’s not enough to declare ‘decentralization,’ right? We have to actually demonstrate it. Here’s what we’re going to do:
dappOS will be non-custodial, and trades will be backed by collateral. Therefore, risk exposure will be strictly temporary.
Furthermore, dappOS aims to be open source and remain that way.
That said, we are looking at innovations and at trends for best practices throughout the crypto industry. So it’s likely that we will do even more as our solution unfolds.
Q3: What are your top priorities in 2022 and 2023? Could you share some plans for the upcoming year? Which part of the project are you most focused on right now?
Darren: Quite a few questions here. Allow me to answer these in reverse order.
dappOS is now fully enabled with Perpetual Protocol on Ethereum Layer 2 Optimism, a roll-up scaling solution.
This integration allows users from other chains to trade on Perpetual without having to navigate a complicated workflow.
Right now we are also focused on building community engagement. We need your help. In the next couple of months, we will roll out our white paper.
And in the last part of the year, once we have established a community, we will push for listings on higher-end exchanges when we have achieved more fundamentals on the product side. We are looking to increase the number of holders, volume, and strength of our community before that happens, however.
We want those tokens to go to more holders because they believe in the project and the returns that it can give them, so we are working very hard to prove ourselves as a community and project before that time comes.
Questions from Telegram
Q1: Do you have a whitepaper? If you have, Please share it with us. Lastly, Do you have plans for pre-sale?
Darren: This is a totally reasonable request. We are working on the white paper. It will be out soon, and I am glad you asked this because it pushes us to finish it. As for a pre-sale, I am in favor of it, but this calls for consensus and we are about a year away from token sales and listings. But I think most projects that value community offer pre-sales, right? So I think there’s a strong chance that we will offer a pre-sale.
Q2: What are your security measures adopted from hacking and bugs in smart contract? Have you conducted any audits to make your smart contract safe?
Darren: There have been a couple questions about audits. We are building an open sourced platform. Audits are more applicable to closed systems. Some of those auditing companies may not ultimately protect users. So in many cases a chain audit is simply a kind of security theater.
I mentioned before that we are non-custodial, and that transactions will be backed by collateral, but some portion of our fees will go towards compensating for certain losses. Not trading losses obviously but anything that happens outside the normal function of a dApp.
Q3: How do DappOS plan to spread awareness about your project in different countries where English is not good? Do you have local communities like Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea,.. so they can better understand your project?
Darren: We do not have such local communities yet! We need your help! Join our dappOS Telegram and participate. My Korean is no longer any good these days (it used to be okay), but we need local speakers for these places. And really, See, every country you mentioned there is a major market for crypto and Web3.
