YGG SEA is the first subDAO of YieldGuild. Its mission is to create the biggest and most sustainable Play-To-Earn virtual economy focused on South East Asia.

On January 20, Irene, Co-Founder & Indonesia Country Manager, and Dan, Head of Investments of YGG SEA joined us to answer our questions.

I started my career in corporate finance/banking before I decided that I needed to jump over to a more exciting life! Hence, I started a gaming VC fund >5 years ago and now I am heading YGG SEA expansion in Indonesia.

I’ve been in crypto since 2013 but at that time my main job was as the head of international publishing for Riot Games. After I left Riot, I began advising game studios and Web3 projects on the intersection of gaming and blockchain technology.

#1. Can you tell us about YGG SEA? What problems do you solve, both in the space and for the community?

Irene: – YGG SEA is the first subDAO of YGG. The subDAO model was part of the original global expansion plans. Our focus is on the SEA community gamers, studios, and governments to ensure that we are building the most sustainable and lucrative play-to-earn gaming ecosystem. Other than it being part of the original plans, there are numerous benefits of having localized operations. The true benefit of the subDao is providing country-focused teams the ability to rapidly expand across their territory by leveraging their local knowledge and networks.

#2. Could you briefly describe the milestones YGG SEA has achieved, and about your upcoming plans?

Irene: – YGG SEA started off on Nov 1st and we are proud to report that as of now:

  • Our community has grown to more than 150k – as you can see from our badge holders…
  • We have a physical presence in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia with a cofounder leading the expansion in each country, in the local language, and a deep grassroots understanding of local culture
  • We have established ourselves as the friendly face for anyone who wanna enter into the crypto and P2E space
  • We have invested in >30 games and I think the first guild who has rolled out 2 games for our scholars to play and earn (one more coming next week)
  • We closed our private round that involve first-timer crypto investors (the conventional large institution like UOB and BRI Ventures) and unicorn co (bukalapak)
  • Gosh many many more really

Going forward, we are committed to continuing to grow the community and embracing everyone into the YGG SEA metaverse.

#1. Going into 2022, what are YGG SEA’s biggest strengths and advantages in the GameFi market within the SEA region? What about its biggest shortcoming/challenge and how does the team plan to overcome it?

Dan: – Our biggest strength is our local support and focus. All other projects and guilds are focused on a global scale, but YGG SEA is focused solely on the needs of players and scholars in our region. We build out local country managers, support systems, localized in each language. We choose the games that are most resonant with players in our region, that reflect the cultures and passions of our local community. We even ensure that the NFT assets we purchase for our scholars are often customized to reflect a unique SEA flavor and design! We work with the local government and universities. Our biggest shortcoming is the lack of actual NFTs to be able to provide to scholars!

#2. I know YGG SEA has built partnerships with universities and governments in Southeast Asia, while Southeast Asia has different cultures and languages, How do you Educate Students and local communities about the YGG SEA platform? How About Your Multi-language Support?

Irene: – We target the university because we have to help them understand that games and education can co-exist. and with YGG SEA, we are giving students the option to pay their tuition from earnings through playinG! One of the local univ called our scholarship Academic scholarship! We have our private discord channel for servers in multiple local languages and we even translate every single axie card to Indonesian ann Thai for example! We also have our offline presence to physically be next to them and guide them on how to open their first digital wallet (and a lot of them don’t even have bank accounts to start with), how t convert to fiat on top of how to play the games.

#3. Do you have any NFT plans and their integration ahead in the roadmap? Also, do you have any passive income options and incentivization rewards for a long-term holder?

Irene: – We do have a YGG SEA badge – that is a form of NFT. you could claim them in yggsea.io and this serves as a passport for the community to the metaverse! For the second part of the question, we can’t disclose much on this at the moment as it involves some regulatory issues as well; but I can say that we do have utilities prepared for our badge holders for sure.

#1. Can you tell me more details on the IDO? The schedule and contribution for each?

Irene: – We did announce a sneak peek of our IDO which you can find in our medium article. While the date is being fixed as we speak, I can drop an alpha here that it would most likely happen very soon. It is going to be done in the Copper launch so everyone can participate and we have a staking mechanism in place when we launch the IDO. #2. Have you been audited? Have not heard you talk about that security of funds is what every investor craves for and plans to escape in case of insecurity if funds, scams, and rug pull? How strongly built is your security put in place?

Dan: – Yes we have been audited and we are going to be announcing audit partners soon! We will ensure that our token holders have absolute confidence in YGG SEA and the security of our token/project.
