Exeedme AMA Recap
Exeedme is a blockchain-powered tournament platform allowing gamers at all skill-levels to monetise their skills. With powerful tools like Polkadot, DeFi, and NFTs Exeedme is revolutionising the gaming industry.
Today we have Nuno Fernandes as CEO of Exeedme and Joana Barros as Head of Growth joining us to answer our questions
I’m Nuno Fernandes. I have spent over 8 years at 2 of the top 5 European Mergers and Acquisitions teams, KPMG and PwC, and was responsible for advising high profile clients from tech to real estate on strategy positioning and raising capital from Venture Funds or Private Equity. I was personally involved in 30 successful deals and +€1B closings. I start my own advisory boutique to share all the knowledge that I collected with early stage businesses that were looking to grow quickly. A lot of exciting projects just popped up, like @Utrust, a powerful blockchain-powered company where I was a strategy advisor working closely with the executive team.
I’m Joana Barros. My background is in economics and I’ve been working in the Tech industry for 7 years now – as Product/Project Manager and as an Entrepreneur. Started my career at Microsoft, where I worked for 5 year during which I developed a Startup program and community, but also, (and i consider this my high point within this big corp ) was the director for Xbox and Gaming! I discovered a new passion that i’ll keep forvever: GAMING! So when I was invited to join the Exeedme team as Head of Growth i couldn’t have told a different answer
Question from the CryptoRank team
#1. Can you tell us about Exeedme Platform? What problems do you solve, both in the space and for the community?
Nuno: – Exeedme is a blockchain-powered tournament platform allowing gamers at all skill-levels, developers and organisers to monetise their skills.
We are in essence a competitive layer on top of centralised and decentralised games that allow players to challenge friends or other players in the games they love the most. Our vision is to build a fair and trusted Play2Earn Polkadot-powered blockchain gaming platform allowing them to earn by betting on themselves, earn XED for playing, and exclusive NFTs prizes for ranking progression and achieving milestones: trophies, collectibles and in-game assets they own and are able to trade or monetize.
We have created this mostly to solve 3 problems in the Esports industry: just a handful of pro-players and streamers really make money, gamers are being explored as a product by freemium models and assets earned in games can’t be monetized or transferred to other digital worlds. With Exeedme we democratise the way gamers can earn in their favorite games and share the profits of their participation through game mining and by rewarding them with NFTs they really own and can trade and monetize. With our system we want to democratize gaming earnings and allow all gamer hobbyists to turn their hobby into a gig and, who knows, maybe a full time gamer job 🙂
#2. Could you shortly describe the milestones Exeedme Platform have achieved, and about your upcoming plans?
Nuno: – The last weeks have been extremely intense, to say the least, and many milestones were achieved as a project:
– A hot listing on Uniswap catapulted $XED volume transacted to >$18m in under 6 hours
– An important metric for us is the number of $XED holders which surpassed the 5000
– Community grew at an astonishing pace: Twitter achieved >10k
For the platform:
– We partnered with DIA to use trustworthy data to fuel our DeFi features, with BetProtocol for betting settlement software integration. Also we were one of the first Blockchain gaming projects to start working with the giant Newzoo, for gaming market data.
– Important to emphasize that both DIA and Betprotocol will be creating their Gaming communities within Exeedme to reward their holders and stakers
– Our team also grew with Torres, who has worked both in gaming companies and Esports teams, joining as our Head of Engineering
Regarding upcoming plans there is so much in the pipeline, but first and foremost, I am really excited about our Beta Testers Competition which will give access to the first 20 people to try out the first version of our Beta.
This will be key for us to collect feedback from 16 gamers amongst our community and from 4 mysterious gamers to be announced soon.
Additionally we have some very cool partnerships on the way – should I give you an exclusive?
Questions from Twitter
#1. Where did you get the inspiration for this unique project idea ? And what influence will we have on the crypto industry due to the project?
Nuno: – The idea was born back in 2018 with a simple but powerful vision from Francisco, a heavy gamer, that when you play alone you try, when you compete you try harder and when you compete and a reward is on the line that’s when you Exeed yourself. And that’s basically where the name comes from.
The goal was to revolutionize the way we compete online. Francisco had been doing research and bootstrapping an Esports tournament platform when we met in 2020 after not seeing each other for more than 7 years.
He told me about the concept of the project and we started discussing how the gaming industry has been run in walled gardens for so long, how tough it is for average players like me (and that’s an overstatement :)) to really make some money instead of just spending.
Immediately I felt a shot of adrenaline and my mind started churning, and I just had all of these ideas about the potential of using DeFi and NFT innovations to improve the focus on the gamer.
And not just pro gamers, also casual gamers like me, in order to give them additional opportunities to monetize their game skills using crypto assets with open market dynamics. We immediately aligned on doing this together and that’s basically how Exeedme was born.
I would say that most projects start from a technological solution but we started from the final goal. We want to revolutionize the way gamers compete online with a gamer-centric approach, with a gamer-centric economy. With this we expect to see a number of gamers that haven’t yet moved to crypto to see the potential that crypto and blockchain to enhance the gamers enjoyment and gains. As such we put Exeedme as the gateway to the mass adoption we will see in the gaming market
#2. What will be the final result and the functions of the game? If I have a suggestion for the platform, how can I give you feedback? What strategies do you use to listen to the community?
Nuno: – So the first game that you will see on the platform is CS:GO a game with >20m MAU but in a couple of months you will see more games joining in and you can choose the first game you want to play.
You can challenge friends you know or you can let our matchmaking system find an opponent with a similar skill set.
You decide how much you want to bet on each game with liquid cryptocurrency and the winner takes it all.
On top of that, and depending on the tier of XED staking you are on, you will be earning $XED everytime you play, and as you complete missions or progress in the rankings you will earn some rare and exclusive NFTs you can trade, sell or use: collectibles, trophies and, in game items.
We will give power tothe community and implement governance: $XED stakers will also be able to vote on platform upgrades, events and other initiatives. This mechanism will ensure that the future of Exeedme will always be co-created with the community and for the community.
#3. When staking out XED, is it possible to get NFTs that are increasing in rarity, my question is, are these NFTs directly related to the games? I mean, if I’m playing CS, will the NFTs be of CS?
Nuno: – The more you stake the more exclusive NFTs you can put your hands on. In fact we are researching avbout the possibility of launching collections of NFTs in partnerships with gaming brands and artist that could only be accessible to a certain staking level.
Those are collectibles but we also want to mint NFTs related to the games and potentially used in the games you are playing (through oracles if we are talking about centralized games) and some that are in-game assets in other platforms. Currently exploring a partnership for trully interoperabilty of Exeedme NFTs to be used in DeFi games
CryptoRank community questions
#1. Apart from Matic, what other partnership does #Exceedme have or planning to have?
Joana: – We have many powerful partnerships already in place.
We partnered with BetProtocol to build incredible DeFi and betting features into our Esports tournaments and matches. Exeedme will leverage BetProtocol’s technology and its gaming software to accelerate development and production of key features of the roadmap such as Game Mining.
We are also a member of the Blockchain Game Alliance which brings together the best blockchain gaming companies to push for mass blockchain technology adoption in the gaming industry and pushes for interoperability standards.
Also, partnership with DIA, an open-source, financial information platform that utilises crypto economic incentives to source and validate data. DIA’s data capabilities to supply, share and use transparent verified price oracles will be key for Exeedme to develop modern and innovative decentralized financial services to a broader audience through the gaming and esports worlds. We will also be collaborating on research, development and innovation regarding custom gaming oracles to allow all games to feed trustworthy data into Exeedme.
There are many partnerships being worked behind the scenes but I don’t want to spoil any surprises. What I can say is that each of them will be a key step to deliverhuge value to passionate gamers, through Exeedme’s platform.
#2. Most projects put these days do not really solve any problem and are only after making money so permit me to ask what problem are you really out to solve and what’s your approach?
Nuno: – 3 big ones:
– just pro-gamers and streamers make money in Esports
– freemium models are transforming gamers in a product (61% of gamers said they felt post-purchase regret after making an in-game purchase)
– Players eearn in-game currency they can’t really monetize or transfer
With Exeedme, these problems are solved – Gamer-Centric Blockchain Play2Earn Platform
#3. NFTs have been a trending topic in the DeFi industry and has been speculated to be the future of DeFi; what are your thoughts on this and do you have plans for the NFT marketplace?
Nuno: – Definitely the connection between NFTs and DeFi is growing. We believe NFT can have infinite use cases and that’s the beauty of it, it can empower DeFi, it can empower Gaming but it can also empower Real Industries like Real Estate (using an NFT to represent a piece of land).
On our side it is all related with breaking the walled gardens from game developers that have closed gamers assets for too long, it about empowering gamers to be able to monetize their assets. And that’s why we have projected a XED DEX for Q3 where you can exchange all your fungible and non fungible tokens related with gaming in an easy and fast manner
